Middle School Science Grading Policy
Grading in Science will be broken down as follows:
Summative Grades (80% of total grade) - Used to gauge mastery of objectives / targets
Unit Tests (100% of Summative) *For Writing Class, the Eagles Write will replace Unit Tests.
*Science Fair Project will be incorporated during the 2nd and 3rd Nine weeks
Formative Grades (20% of total grade) - Used as progress monitoring and for feedback to guide instruction and learning
Projects and Labs (40% of Formative)
Quizzes (40% of Formative)
Homework (20% of Formative)
Late Work/ Make-Up Work Policy:
Late Work will be accepted up to 4 school days after the due date, with 5 points being deducted for each day late. Make-Up Work from EXCUSED absences will be accepted up to 5 school days after the date of the absence. Make-Up Work should be recorded in the student’s Planner and can be found on the Assignment Board. Missed information or materials should be gotten upon return, and can be found in the Assignment File Box. Students are encouraged to exercise responsibility in getting Make-Up Assignments independently. Questions may be addressed to a friend or the teacher. “I wasn’t here.” Is not an acceptable excuse.
Test Retakes:
To increase standards and expectations for our Middle Schoolers, instead of assigning an A-F grade on Unit Tests, I will use A,B, and Not Yet. The Not Yet tells the students that the expectations and standards have not yet been met, but that I have faith in their ability to learn and master them. Students who receive a Not Yet grade have the option of accepting the earned grade (C or below), or (RECOMMENDED) retake the Unit Test. ALL Unit Tests that earn a Not Yet grade must be signed by a Parent and returned.
